| This is what makes my job ace! Observing two 4-year--old's independent play, I saw they were pressing first earmuffs, then the inside of their coats against the thermometer outside. They were talking about the relative fluffiness of their coats' linings and deciding which one was the best for warming (the fluffiest was deemed the winner). They then stood there, rubbing the fluffiest lining against the thermometer, talking about having lots to do and taking turns etc.
I couldn't quite work out what this was all in aid of, so having given the obligatory praise for working together and taking turns I asked what they were so busy doing. They explained that they knew it was cold because the "blue is all the way down there, near ten", so if they warmed the thermometer up, "the blue will go up and the playground will get warmer. It's really cold out here!".
4-year-old cause and effect for the win! | comments: 2 commentaires or Envoyez un commentaire |
| Pretty boring really, went into school for two days, then worked on school stuff for a few more (including making a fab video - I left the kids with the video camera for them to make a tour of the classroom, so cute!). Actually cleaned the house and did some tidying too, so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself. Went for a few walks in the lovely weather (when it wasn't too hot, I'm gonna die in China this summer >.<'' )
Done some work today, getting ready for the 7 week slog til summer, then I trailed off and read fic until I found the new and most shiny Children of Earth trailer at http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood/
It's bound to be a let down after that, I haven't fan-girled anything this hard since GW (or possibly HP, but meh) and now I've got to spend a month not getting excited and waiting patiently for the new Torchwood novels to appear in my library (I'd buy them, but the reviews say 2 seem to ignore the entirely cannon Janto, and *nothing* is gonna live up to the fan-ficcy goodness of Almost Perfect).
I'll look for ward to the end of Ashes to Ashes for now (I'm allowed to watch since Lucie realised Keely Hawes was in it), and distract myself with the re-up of The Wire that Lucie's parents just brought, and try to avoid Lucie's wrath because she utterly fails to see the appeal of Gareth David -Lloyd crying his eyes out in a suit . It's such a shame they didn't keep Suzie, cos I might have been able to persuade her to watch if Indira Varma had been a regular and Eve Myles wasn't quite so prominent. | comments: 1 commentaire or Envoyez un commentaire |
| So I've not updated since February... oops. I've mostly just not been on LJ at all, or when I have been it's been for a few minutes until I got distracted, i need to update the fandom communities on my f-list. Not sure there's much new going on, slightly overworked at work, but all my own doing, so that's fine and the half term is going to be used profitably this time (she said with much failing at conviction) I think this half term went surprisingly well given that I had 2 days to plan it (the Easter holiday being spent in Japan and at a wedding). I've got a bit fitter, due to the amount of skipping our school has been doing, as we were sponsored for it as part of a British Heart Foundation scheme.
Um, not really done much else. All good current tv has apparently finished, I'm stalled reading the Vorkosigan saga, no original writing has happened for months, I've a master's project to get invented which is breakgn my brain, my Sims are being randomly het at me and refusing to become zmobies and the BBC have yet to announce when they're going to cough up Children of Earth.
But good things include a letter from the council saying they've sent my 'you can be a real teacher now' form off tothe General Teaching Council (who will say okay as I've paid my subscription), my class are still lovely and enjoying school and making hilarious videos about our classroom for the pre-school, Lucie's project has results of a positive nature coming out of it and China trip is organised as far as it can be at this stage.
Plus we just got back from the zoo!!!! Much fun there, ridiculously cute baby monkeys, low flying vultures, ickle spiky dragons and a maned wolf, to name but a few and all good. I restrained myself from buying children's things in the shop, but maybe I should have. Oh well, there's always the Works and Amazon. | comments: Envoyez un commentaire |
| Hm, pretty tired but trying not to go to bed at 9 on a Friday night so....
Mindless drivel in my brain: The whole score of Joseph (the technicolour dreamcoat one)- found it for 50p last Saturday, have listened to the whole thing 5 times now (it's the same length as a day's driving to and from work) and even though I've got the Jason Donovan version, I totally imagine John Barrowman as Joseph just because I can literally hear him singing with entirely appropriate egotism "I look handsome, I look smart, I am a walking work of Art!" Must resist living on youtube, I've seen all of Sam's songs from Nancy way too many times now >.< Anyhew, mostly successful week at school, best bit was making a swamp in a builder's tray, of washing up liquid, sand tissue paper, green wool and grass! Just as kids for instant mess/hilarity!
Also, my WELSH girlfriend is busy screaming at the Rugby and randomly singing the Welsh national anthem, though thankfully she only knows the first verse. I'm confused, and also wondering why the French have Jesus on their team, but go figure...
And now for meme yoinked from kayin_chan
( memey-meme meme... )

| | Next half term we're doing 'friendships' for our PSED topic and I was wondering if anyone had any good friendship songs they could point me to/ send me? I've got the Rembrants "I'll be there for you" and "All in this together" from HSM but I'm rather lacking otherwise. Any ideas? :D | comments: 9 commentaires or Envoyez un commentaire |
| I am *so* not watching BSG anymore >:(
...until the next ep, damnit!
Also, there are webisodes?!? Why am I always the last to know about the gay?!? | comments: 1 commentaire or Envoyez un commentaire |
| Ridiculously busy week has lead me to not realise that I have 2 days to submit my rs_small_gifts fic >.<'' It is written and it is about 5000 words HP not very angsty slash (but the G-rated kind, there's a single kiss) which I know most ppl on this list don't read *flails* .
Can anyone offer beta reading (of the spag kind, i know i've not left long enough for serious commentary, so I hope to Jeebus it makes some kinda sense :*( ) by Sunday? I'd offer thank-you fic, but I have zero time and loads of Marys and angels to cut out over the weekend, not to mention shopping for x-mas, so perhaps my eternal gratitude and internet rudolph cookies will have to do? | comments: 2 commentaires or Envoyez un commentaire |
| I used to be able to make icons with several pictures in them, ala my Kimberly one. I seem to have forgotten how to achieve this.
Having just had it pointed out to me (yes I am very, very slow) that Zachary Quinto is in Star Trek Zero or whatever its name it, but on a rather unrelated note, I really want an icon with the text "You say mass murder like it's a bad thing" and pictures of Sylar, Hakkai from Saiyuki, Quatre from Gundam Wing, Baltar from BSG, Dilandau from Esca, Abel from Trinity Blood and Knives from Trigun.
Anyone know what easily available program I might have used? | comments: 3 commentaires or Envoyez un commentaire |
| So far this half term I have failed to:
-Write anything new, fic or original, barring a new sentence in 'the novel that will never be finished' and two 50 word scenes for fic I won't write for rs_small_gifts (as the prompts haven't even gone up yet!)
-Plan any lessons, organise folders, fill in millions of assessment forms, or indeed do schoolwork of any kind beyond thinking of stuff I would be nice to do if I had the energy/impetous
-Read most of the stuff I got from the library (7 pages of Saiyuki, 12 of New X-Men and 1 and a half Torchwood novels don't count, especially as the half a Torchwood novel sucked)
-Book a restaurant for my parents coming Saturday
-Tidy/clean the flat for parents coming Saturday
-Do various banking and organising stuff
-Contribute to the pbem I should be contributing to
-Get sorted to begin my new Masters module
So far this half term I have suceeded in:
-Playing Sims 2
-Reading lots of HP and TW fic
-Getting up before 9 so I can pretend to be thinking about work
-Watching lots of crap on Youtube
-Spending this morning pondering 11 (so many cracky choices, so little point in speculating!)

| My pasting of the coding seems to be made of fail, but apparently my Dewey Decimal section is:
"764 Chromolithography & serigraphy , part of the 700's Arts & Recreation including Architecture, drawing, painting, music, sports. What it says about you: You're creative and fun, and you're good at motivating the people around you. You're attracted to things that are visually interesting. Other people might not always understand your taste or style, but it's yours." It might be overdoing it on the "fun" part, but I like to think the rest is true :) Plus I'm virtually certain I've never shelved anything at this number before, which I think is cool. I probably shouldn't find a Dewey meme quite this grin-worthy. That could be what it means by people not understanding my tastes though...
In other news, Torchwood novels need more Ianto and less Gwen. That or I need to read more sam_storyteller fic and not bother with real paper books anymore cos they're clearly never going to meet my fannish demands. | comments: 1 commentaire or Envoyez un commentaire |
| Seeing that Ivan has guessed half of my characters entertaining my need for meme-age, here are two of the drabbles he prompted me for, One DS9 with Bashir (and Garak and Odo) and one with House/Cox from Scrubs (which is probably the least slashy not-quite slash I've ever written) I had to double drabble that one, as it's all dialogue which cannot be done easily with two rather verbose characters. All terribly G-rated too :)

| 1. Post a list of books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/etc. that you've had an obsessive fannish love of at some time in your life. 2. Have your f-list guess your favorite character from each item. (One male and One Female.)
These may be horribly easy, I do tend to go on and on about my favourites. Though I suppose I have some series where I don't really like any female characters, they might be more difficult.
1. Hellsing - Sir Integral Wingates Hellsing(f) Walter (m) 2. X-Men - Gambit(m) 3. Star Trek:DS9 - Mirrorverse!Kira (f) and Bashir (m) 4.B5 - Ivanova (f) Marcus Cole (m) 5. House - Wilson (m) and Cuddy (f) 6. Harry Potter - Lupin (m) 7. Dark Angel - Logan (m) Original Cindy (f) 8. Gundam Wing - Trowa (m) Une (f) 9. Buffy - Giles (m) Tara (f) 10. Angel Spike (m) Fred (f) 11. Firefly Kaylee (f) Wash(m) 12. Torchwood Ianto (m) Tosh (f) 13. Strawberry Panic (I know, there're no men, I'll have two girls instead!) Amane (m-ish) Rokujou (f) 14. BSG (Reimagined) Balter(m) (Athena) 15. FFX 16. DBZ Android 18 (f) 17. Gravitation Tohma (m) Reiji (f) 18. Baku Ten Jo (f) Leo (m)
I'm mostly going on stuff I've written or read fic of, so that's all I've got for now (and that's why DBZ's on there >.<'') | comments: 7 commentaires or Envoyez un commentaire |
| I wanna write stuff, but my original muse is hiding behind all the deciphering I did of notes last weekend, so I'm asking for fan-fic prompts.
Leave me a character/pairing, an object and a quote you want incorporated and I'll try and kick start my creativity with drabbles.
p.s. House season 5 rocks so hard, fan-girl squee! | comments: 1 commentaire or Envoyez un commentaire |
| So I have my first day with the kids tomorrow, all seven of them in the morning (they're my Yr R class, Hedghogs) and then more (28 total I think) in the afternoon when I have Yr 1 (Squirrels) also. It's gonna be kinda scary for all of us I think! I've got morning stuff for them to do (making a Hedgehog (see the link there, that's like topic work or something)) and I'm mostly worried about the parents not wanting to leave them I think. One has never been to any kind of nursery before, but the others I'm hoping will be okay *crosses fingers*
It's all still a bit random though, because I might have all the Hedghogs all day, or some just in the morning, there're 3 very young ones, one was only 4 last week >.< And more might just turn up tomorrow, we had a woman show up at the office this lunchtime and say she'd just moved into the area and hadn't got a school for her child yet. The day before schools start back is cutting it little fine! And my TA is ill and not likely to come back for at least a few weeks, so the little ones will have to get used to a random person, but I've decided they'll all be hardy, not wet, and they'll cope! That's positive thinking or something!
Anyway. Am all kinds of panicking, but never mind, it'll happen, and it'll happen better once I've got my files sorted and the house tidy and next weekend which will be full of travel (bad) and wedding (good) out of the way, and I've adjusted to getting up early again. I drove there a bit zombified today having got up at quatre to seven, would be better to be awake really for negotiating bikes and randomly parked cars of a morning. | comments: 1 commentaire or Envoyez un commentaire |

| Why is the expression "pre-owned" for second-hand objects? Maybe it's just used in American, I'm not really familiar with it.
Surely 'pre' should imply before, and so 'before ownership'? Would 'post-owned' make more sense, as in it's after its first ownership, as in second-hand? Or am I just thinking about it backwards? | comments: 2 commentaires or Envoyez un commentaire |
| This video is sooo made of win! It's a totally cracky vid set to the tune of Does your Mother Know (the Mamma Mia version) and I so don't remember McG giving all those sexy looks (yay for Maggie Smith being so cool!). Plus smirking James and sulky Remus are great! The vid maker also has the only vid with Tonks that I've ever enjoyed and is the only person I know apart from me who's used clips of David Thewlis from Prime Suspect (yay for gay prostitute Remus!)

Now I just need someone to write that Remus/Snape Synchronised Diving AU and my need for work distracting crack will be sated! | comments: Envoyez un commentaire |
